اسْتَأْذَنَ رَهْطٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالُوا السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ. فَقُلْتُ بَلْ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّامُ وَاللَّعْنَةُ. فَقَالَ: يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ رَفِيقٌ يُحِبُّ الرِّفْقَ فِي الأَمْرِ كُلِّهِ. قُلْتُ: أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ مَا قَالُوا؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ وَعَلَيْكُمْ
Narrated 'Aisha: A group of Jews asked permission to visit the Prophet (ﷺ) and when they were admitted they said, 'As-Samu 'Alaika (death be upon you).' I said (to them), 'But death and the curse of Allah be upon you!' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'O 'Aisha! Allah is kind and lenient and likes that one should be kind and lenient in all matters.' I said, 'Haven't you heard what they said?' He said, 'I said (to them), Wa 'Alaikum (and upon you).'
لاَ تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ أَنْ تَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِوَجْهٍ طَلْقٍ
Abu Dharr reported: Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said to me, "Don't consider anything insignificant out of good things even if it is that you meet your brother with a cheerful countenance."
الرَّاحِمُونَ يَرْحَمُهُمُ الرَّحْمَنُ. ارْحَمُوا مَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ يَرْحَمْكُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ. الرَّحِمُ شُجْنَةٌ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ فَمَنْ وَصَلَهَا وَصَلَهُ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ قَطَعَهَا قَطَعَهُ اللَّهُ
Abdullah bin 'Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The merciful are shown mercy by Ar-Rahman. Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from Who is above the heavens. The womb is named after Ar-Rahman, so whoever connects it, Allah connects him, and whoever severs it, Allah severs him."
تَبَسُّمُكَ فِي وَجْهِ أَخِيكَ لَكَ صَدَقَةٌ وَأَمْرُكَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَنَهْيُكَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ صَدَقَةٌ وَإِرْشَادُكَ الرَّجُلَ فِي أَرْضِ الضَّلاَلِ لَكَ صَدَقَةٌ وَبَصَرُكَ لِلرَّجُلِ الرَّدِيءِ الْبَصَرِ لَكَ صَدَقَةٌ وَإِمَاطَتُكَ الْحَجَرَ وَالشَّوْكَةَ وَالْعَظْمَ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ لَكَ صَدَقَةٌ وَإِفْرَاغُكَ مِنْ دَلْوِكَ فِي دَلْوِ أَخِيكَ لَكَ صَدَقَةٌ
Abu Dharr reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity, commanding good and forbidding evil is charity, your giving directions to a man lost in the land is charity for you, your seeing for a man with bad sight is a charity for you, your removal of a rock, a thorn or a bone from the road is charity for you, and your pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is charity for you."
إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مِائَةَ رَحْمَةٍ أَنْزَلَ مِنْهَا رَحْمَةً وَاحِدَةً بَيْنَ الْجِنِّ وَالإِنْسِ وَالْبَهَائِمِ وَالْهَوَامِّ فَبِهَا يَتَعَاطَفُونَ وَبِهَا يَتَرَاحَمُونَ وَبِهَا تَعْطِفُ الْوَحْشُ عَلَى وَلَدِهَا وَأَخَّرَ اللَّهُ تِسْعًا وَتِسْعِينَ رَحْمَةً يَرْحَمُ بِهَا عِبَادَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA): I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ saying, 'Allah has divided His mercy into one hundred parts. He kept ninety-nine parts with Him and sent one part to the earth. Through this one part, all of creation shows compassion to one another — so much so that an animal lifts its hoof over its young lest it should hurt it. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will complete the full one hundred parts of mercy toward His servants.'
بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ يَمْشِي فَاشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَطَشُ فَنَزَلَ بِئْرًا فَشَرِبَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِكَلْبٍ يَلْهَثُ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ بَلَغَ هَذَا مِثْلُ الَّذِي بَلَغَ بِي فَمَلَأَ خُفَّهُ ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَهُ بِفِيهِ ثُمَّ رَقِيَ فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ فَشَكَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ
Narrated Abu Hurayrah (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, 'While a man was walking he felt very thirsty and went down a well and drank from it. When he came out he saw a dog panting and eating the moist earth out of thirst. He said to himself, this dog is suffering from the same thirst as I was. He went down the well and filled his shoe and gave the dog water. Allah thanked him for this and forgave his sins.'
مَنْ يُحْرَمِ الرِّفْقَ يُحْرَمِ الْخَيْرَ
Narrated Jarir ibn Abdullah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Whoever is deprived of gentleness is deprived of good."
مَنْ لاَ يَرْحَمُ لاَ يُرْحَمُ
Narrated Jarir ibn Abdullah (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully."
أَتَرَوْنَ هَذِهِ طَارِحَةً وَلَدَهَا فِي النَّارِ. قُلْنَا لاَ وَهْىَ تَقْدِرُ عَلَى أَنْ لاَ تَطْرَحَهُ. فَقَالَ لَلَّهُ أَرْحَمُ بِعِبَادِهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ بِوَلَدِهَا
Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA): Some captives were brought to the Prophet (SAW), and among them was a woman searching; whenever she found a child among the captives, she held it to her chest and nursed it. The Prophet (SAW) said, "Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?" We said, "No, not if she is able not to." He said, "Allah is more merciful to His servants than this woman is to her child."
عُذِّبَتِ امْرَأَةٌ فِي هِرَّةٍ سَجَنَتْهَا حَتَّى مَاتَتْ، فَدَخَلَتْ فِيهَا النَّارَ، لاَ هِيَ أَطْعَمَتْهَا وَلاَ سَقَتْهَا إِذْ حَبَسَتْهَا، وَلاَ هِيَ تَرَكَتْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ الأَرْضِ
Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "A woman was punished because of a cat which she imprisoned until it died, and she entered the Fire because of it. She neither fed it nor gave it water while she kept it locked up, nor did she let it free to eat from the creatures of the earth."
إِنَّ الرِّفْقَ لاَ يَكُونُ فِي شَىْءٍ إِلاَّ زَانَهُ وَلاَ يُنْزَعُ مِنْ شَىْءٍ إِلاَّ شَانَهُ
Narrated Aisha (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Gentleness is not found in anything except that it beautifies it, and it is not removed from anything except that it disfigures it."
إِنِّي لَمْ أُبْعَثْ لَعَّانًا وَإِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ رَحْمَةً
Narrated Abu Hurayrah (RA): It was said to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), "Invoke a curse upon the polytheists." He said, "I was not sent as one who curses; I was only sent as a mercy."
لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَيُوَقِّرْ كَبِيرَنَا
Narrated Anas ibn Malik (RA): An old man came to speak to the Prophet (SAW), and the people were slow to make room for him. The Prophet (SAW) said, "He is not one of us who does not have mercy on our young and does not respect our elders."
يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَعَيَّرْتَهُ بِأُمِّهِ إِنَّكَ امْرُؤٌ فِيكَ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ، إِخْوَانُكُمْ خَوَلُكُمْ، جَعَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ تَحْتَ أَيْدِيكُمْ، فَمَنْ كَانَ أَخُوهُ تَحْتَ يَدِهِ فَلْيُطْعِمْهُ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ، وَلْيُلْبِسْهُ مِمَّا يَلْبَسُ، وَلاَ تُكَلِّفُوهُمْ مَا يَغْلِبُهُمْ، فَإِنْ كَلَّفْتُمُوهُمْ فَأَعِينُوهُمْ
Narrated Abu Dharr (RA): I insulted a man by taunting him about his mother, and the Prophet (SAW) said, "O Abu Dharr, did you taunt him about his mother? You are a man who still has some traits of ignorance. Your servants are your brothers whom Allah has placed under your authority. So whoever has his brother under him, let him feed him from what he eats and clothe him from what he wears. Do not burden them beyond their ability, and if you do burden them, then help them."
إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الإِحْسَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ فَإِذَا قَتَلْتُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا الْقِتْلَةَ وَإِذَا ذَبَحْتُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا الذَّبْحَ وَلْيُحِدَّ أَحَدُكُمْ شَفْرَتَهُ فَلْيُرِحْ ذَبِيحَتَهُ
Narrated Shaddad ibn Aws (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Allah has prescribed excellence in everything. So when you kill, kill well; and when you slaughter, slaughter well. Let each of you sharpen his blade and spare the animal suffering."
