Allah Records a Good Deed Even for a Good Intention
إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَالسَّيِّئَاتِ، ثُمَّ بَيَّنَ ذَلِكَ فَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً، فَإِنْ هُوَ هَمَّ بِهَا فَعَمِلَهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ إِلَى سَبْعِمِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ إِلَى أَضْعَافٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً، فَإِنْ هُوَ هَمَّ بِهَا فَعَمِلَهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ لَهُ سَيِّئَةً وَاحِدَةً
Transliteration
Innallaha katabal-hasanati was-sayyi'at, thumma bayyana dhalik, faman hamma bi-hasanatin falam ya'malha katabahallahu lahu 'indahu hasanatan kamilah, fa-in huwa hamma biha fa'amilaha katabahallahu lahu 'indahu 'ashra hasanatin ila sab'i mi'ati di'fin ila ad'afin kathirah, wa man hamma bi-sayyi'atin falam ya'malha katabahallahu lahu 'indahu hasanatan kamilah, fa-in huwa hamma biha fa'amilaha katabahallahu lahu sayyi'atan wahidah
Translation
Narrated Ibn Abbas (RA): The Prophet (SAW), narrating from his Lord, said, "Allah has written down good deeds and bad deeds, then made it clear: whoever intends a good deed but does not do it, Allah writes it with Him as a complete good deed; if he intends it and does it, Allah writes it with Him as ten good deeds up to seven hundred times, up to many times more. Whoever intends a bad deed but does not do it, Allah writes it with Him as a complete good deed; and if he intends it and does it, Allah writes it as one bad deed."
