Sahih
Sahih al-Bukhari · 6077·Narrated by Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (RA)

Transliteration

La yahillu li muslimin an yahjura akhahu fawqa thalath, yaltaqiyani fayu'ridu hadha wa yu'ridu hadha, wa khayruhumaal-ladhi yabda'u bis-salam

Translation

Narrated Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, 'It is not lawful for a Muslim to cut off relations with his brother for more than three days; they meet and this one turns away and that one turns away. The better of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of salam.'

Practice This Today

If you have cut off a Muslim brother or sister, make today day one of mending — send them salam first. Being first is the mark of the better person.
